Driven by the desire to grow crops and realize their dreams, in year 2000 the Abreu Garcia family decided to buy the Fazenda Campo Belo farm, located in Campo Belo do Sul in the Santa Catarina Highlands, to develop viticulture and innovate in that field. The land’s altitude, sunlight and the typical European climate are important advantages of this property and provide the ideal conditions to grow grapes and enjoy the best of wine. The first vineyard was planted in October 2006.
The participation of Aparecido Silva, professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and Viticulture PhD by the University of Bordeaux (France) was critical in the first stages of the project, which he still zealously monitors. His devotion to research is complemented by the expertise of Jean Pierre Rosier, Enology PhD by the University of Bordeaux, and the modernity of Leonardo Ferrari, a young enologist with a degree in Viticulture and Enology by the Federal Institute of Bento Gonçalves and specialization studies in the University of Cadiz (Spain).
To reach our current status, we had the support of EPAGRI (Santa Catarina State Agricultural Research and Rural Extension Agency) and we have partnered with UFSC FAPEU (Foundation for the Support of University Research and Outreach). The vineyard was planted using certified French vines of Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Vermentino
